New record for most wins to start a season.

The 1982 Braves and the 1987 Brewers each began their baseball season with 13 straight wins which was the record, until last night, when the New York Yankees recorded their 14th straight win to begin a season.  The Yankees used solid 2-hit complete game pitching from starter Luis Severino and several towering home runs from Paul O’Neill, Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu to paste the Detroit Tiger 7-0 in the opening of a 4-game series at the stadium.

The 15 hit Yankee attach spread out over 4 Tiger pitchers as hits and walks filled the home club scoresheet.  36 year old speedster Brett Gardner showed ample life in those old legs by stealing 4 bases upping his season total to a league leading 13 swipes.

Game #2 of the 4 game series resumes tonight with Jonathan Loaisiga getting mound duties for the Yanks and Buck Farmer going for the Tigers.

Brett Gardner leads the League with steals racking up 13 so far this season.  Gardner began his career with the Pinstripes in 2008 and was part of the 2009 World Series Championship team.  He was an All-Star in 2015 and Gold Glove Award recipient in 2016.
