Start your Netscape software... you do not need to be on-line to enter the settings.

We'll cover setting up a mailbox with Syracuse.Net, then we'll cover using a mailbox with another provider such as mac.com, yahoo.com, etc.

In this example, let's use the following information to set up the software for a Syracuse.Net mailbox for Wayne Bibbens:

Name: Wayne Bibbens
Syracuse.Net User ID: wbibbens
Incoming mailbox name: mail.syracuse.net
Outgoing mailbox name: mail.syracuse.net

Pull down the Edit Menu and select Preferences. In the Category List, select Identity by clicking on "Identity" once.

In the "Identity" section at the right...
Enter your Real Name... Wayne Bibbens
Enter your e-mail address... wbibbens@syracuse.net
Enter your reply-to e-mail address... wbibbens@syracuse.net

Please use the below screen shot for clarification.

In the Category List, select Mail Servers by clicking on "Mail Servers" once.

In the "Outgoing Mail Server" section at the right...
Enter the SMTP Server... mail.syracuse.net
Enter the SMTP user name... wbibbens

You may also select for SSL "if possible" if you wish.

Let's enter the information concerning the Incoming Mail Server.

You can edit the Incoming Mail Server listed by clicking on the "Edit" button or add an Incoming Mail Server if none is listed by clicking the "Add" button.

Please "Edit" or "Add", then follow along with the next screen shot.

Enter the Server Name... mail.syracuse.net
Enter the User Name... wbibbens

You can also check "Remember password" if you like.

When finished, click the "OK" button in the Mail Server Info window. Then click the "OK" button in the Preferences window.

Your mail settings are now in place to send and receive mail using the Syracuse.Net mail account. When you send an e-mail to a friend, here is how they would see it...

OK, how about a mac.com account.... here we go.

Let's use the info for Wayne Bibbens again.

Syracuse.Net Info
Name: Wayne Bibbens
User ID: wbibbens
Outgoing mailbox name: mail.syracuse.net

Mac.com Info
Name: Wayne Bibbens
User ID: syracusenet
Incoming mailbox name: mail.mac.com
