Settings for Fetch

Start the Fetch software... you do need to be on-line to upload and download your files to your personal web space.

When you have a free personal webpage with Syracuse.Net, Inc., you will have a 5mb folder with which to use for your webpage(s), e-bay photos, whatever.

Here are the settings you would receive for your web space:

Host: ftp.syracusenet.net

User ID: (this is generally the same as your dialup I.D.)

Password: (this is generally the same as your dialup password)

Directory: /syracusenet/users/(directory name)

For an example, let's use a person that just signed up today.... their User ID is pianoman.... Figure 1 shows what settings are used in our example.

Figure 1

In this case, as in most, the directory name is the same as their User ID, this keeps it simple.

In Fetch, to upload files use the Put File Button, to download files to your hard drive use the Get File Button. Experiment with a few small text files to see how and where files go. Here's another figure with the Put and Get buttons.

Figure 2

This is important, please read this part! If you're making a web page, your "lead file" is named default.htm. When you give the web address to your personal web page, it would be, as in this example...

http://www.syracuse.net/users/pianoman

...where in the place of "pianoman", you would use the name of your folder. The browser software will automatically display the "lead file". Simple? It's a Mac!

Just one more tip. When uploading "jpg" and "gif" files, use the "raw data" feature, otherwise the graphics files will be decoded to another format that may not work.
